This mini-album features two pieces for six cellos, with the typical Wreckfish sound. Both pieces are inspired by life deep down in the oceans. They form a natural pair, yet they are the result of two very different creative approaches.

Kraken Song was meticulously composed, note by note, before it was recorded; it impersonates the Kraken, an enigmatic deep-sea monster thought to resemble a giant squid. Like this animal's movements in the dark oceanic depths, the slow-moving, heavy music alternates between forceful strokes and moments of quiet, motionless floating.

Black Smokers is a hellish soundscape that layers six feverish staccato cellos onto processed recordings of machine sounds (source: BBC). It portrays the amazing chimney-like structures – named black smokers – that are found at the pitch-dark bottom of the ocean, which spout violent jets of 400-degrees-hot muddy water. Zillions of worms, shrimps and other small creatures huddle around these chimneys, surviving in the narrow zone between burning to death and the vast ice-cold emptiness of the ocean depths. Black Smokers portrays the frantic activity of these creatures and the relentless torrents of scorching, boiling water.
